Jim has nearly 40 years of experience in the financial advisory business, which began when he graduated from Wake Forest University in 1980 with a bachelor’s degree in economics.
He quickly rose up the ranks during his career, and was promoted to Senior Vice President at Primerica in 1989 where he developed financial plans for his own clients and also mentored new representatives in the sale of insurance and investments. In 2007, Jim began his own independent financial practice and in 2008 formed JFJ Financial Group.
Jim holds life, health, and long term care insurance licenses for N.C. as well as securities license series 26, 6, 63, and 65 for N.C. and N.Y. The series 65 exam called The Uniform Investment Advisor Law Exam covers laws, regulations, ethics and topics such as retirement planning, portfolio management strategies and fiduciary responsibilities.
Jim’s philosophy as president of JFJ Financial Group is that it is critical for investors to have a plan and not just a collection of investments. Plan first and invest second. He listens carefully to understand what the goals are and then implements a plan that reflects each investor’s unique circumstances.
He has been a speaker at numerous investor workshops, civic meetings and church events. Jim is known for his ability to simplify complex topics and keep the audience’s attention by adding a bit of humor into the program.
Jim has two children: Mike who is a Navy Jag; and Rachel who is a business owner.
